Thank you everyone!

Dear Mr Quek, Mr Chan and Guitar Ensemble,

It was the first performance of Guitar Ensemble today - also the opening performance of today's Teacher's Day celebration. The urge of making a good first impression no doubt made all of us a little nervous. However, as I have said to you a moment before the curtain opened "This is your show - your performance!" , I believe the we - the whole ensemble have put more than 100% of your feelings and dedication on every note that we played today.
And owned the stage we have. From many encouraging comments that we have received from our teachers and friends today, I truly believe that our music has reached the audience's hearts and minds, our preparation effort in the last few weeks has certainly been recognised. While there are still much improvement that we need to work on, let this be the baptism by fire - a propitious beginning of our journey towards greater heights as one HCGC!
And certainly we cannot forget all the care and support that our teachers-in-charge, Mr Quek and Mr Chan, as well as Ms Wong, have given us throughout the entire process. Without whom this performance would have been impossible. Thank you so much for everything and happy Teacher's Day!
Lastly, to the Guitar Ensemble, I wish you all the best for your promos, PW & see you soon!

Best regards
Tran Ha Duong, on behalf of the HCGC EXCO 09-10

Thank you letter from Mr Quek!

Dear Guitar ensemble
Thank you for the wonderful card and flowers:)
I really really think you all played outstandingly today and I was there at the front row seats listening to every note you all played:)
My colleagues commented on how you all improved so much:)
I sincerely feel so proud of you all and I am honored to be your teacher in charge. I have requested to continue being your teacher in charge and I really hope we can bring the guitar ensemble to greater heights together. Thanks!

We will go through the songs first before proceeding to the auditorium together. The seating arrangement will be uploaded onto this blog soon, pls check it regularly over the next few days for updates. I don't think we will be bringing music stands along, so please memorize your scores by the coming wednesday.

SOULTIMATE CHARITY PERFORMANCE:

Guitar 2: Duong, Zheng Rui, Clara, Peiying
Guitar 3: Liukun, Lujun, Ivan, Edwin

Rehearsal: I believe you guys have received the email from Lu Jun, there will be a full-dress rehearsal for charity concert performance on 22nd Aug next saturday starting from 1pm at Chengyi Auditorium.

Performance Training: There was originally scheduled to be a training session for the 14 of us on the coming wednesday, but since there is the teachers day rehearsal on that day, we will postpone the timing to after the rehearsal. Please stay back after the rehearsal and we will practice the 2 songs together.

There will still be practice on the coming friday, it may well be one of the last practices we have before the performances. Remember to bring your full attire for checking on that day. This is our final rush, practice hard and we will make our first performances a success!

Hi guys,

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Hey long time no post (:

Glad to see training has resumed and everything is back to normal, so we can make announcements to you guys directly from now on.

However, there are still a few issues:

1)
Charity concert on 28th August:
Venue: Auditorium
Time: 7.30 to 9.30 pm (we will only be performing for around 15 minutes)
Attire: CCA costume, T-shirt and jeans are OK.
Main rehearsal: 22 August
Songs played: Vera's theme, Lagrima Y Sonsiras

The student-in-charge will be coming down some time next week to see how we perform, before we confirm our performance on that day.

2)
Punctuality: During every session (especially friday sessions), you must be ready (in ensemble formation) by 3.30pm on wednesdays and 4.30pm on fridays. For fridays, i believe you have to come over immediately after CT session and not linger at the class benches to be on time. Ohterwise, Ms Wong may have to wait for us to settle down and it will be a waste of our time and money.

Cheers (:

Practice/ Allocation test

Hi guys,

There has been an unlucky turn of events again, because our practice on 10th July is cancelled again because of H1N1.

Therefore, our allocation test originally scheduled on 10th July friday will be postponed to wednesday next week, 15th july. If nothing crops up (hopefully), official practice will resume from 3.30pm to approximately 6pm on wednesday.

For the allocation test, we may be testing you guys on the chords for the farewell song too so please try to memorize the 8 repeating chords (:

Please check this blog frequently for the next few days for important announcements (e.g. outing, farewell etc.)

Our batch may have struck an unlucky patch, but we will pull through it together!

Farewell party: 20th July

There is a CIP activity you guys may be interested in (:

Details:

A service-learning group (By melissa and yeam cheng teng) is requesting for performers from the guitar ensemble. It aims to recruit groups of performers (2-4 per group due to space constraints in the dialysis centres) to put up short performances for the patients undergoing dialysis at NKF.

This program lasts for 2 months from after blocks to september, volunteers have to go down every week or once per 2 weeks. Volunteers must commit for every session unless they have an official reason. The exact days and times have not been confirmed. Note that this is not a CCA CIP, if you volunteer its on a personal basis (:

If you guys are interested, please form groups of 2-4 and email Zheng Rui the names and classes of the group members. I will forward it to the organizers. Thank you.

Friday, June 12, 2009

Hi guys, hope you all are resting (and mugging) well! However, there are a few issues that require your attention (:

J2 Farewell Party:
The date of farewell has been confirmed to be on the 20th of July, Monday after school from 4pm onwards.

Allocation of members in each section:
We need a balanced number of guitar players in each section. Ms Wong has suggested more guitar 1 and 2 players relative to guitar 3 players. The ideal strength in each section would be 10 guitar 1s, 10 guitar 2s, 7 guitar 3s (including 1 guitarron backup player), 1 guitarron, and 1 contrabass. However, we have now 12 guitar 3s, 7 guitar 2s, 1 guitarron, no contrabass, no guitarron backup, and 9 guitar 1s.

Therefore to allocate members to each section fairly based on the individual's strength, we will be conducting an allocation test (as mentioned in the previous post) on the first practice after blocks:

Allocation test:

Date: 10th July 2009, Friday (tentative)

Aim: To allocate members to sections according to their suitability. A rough guage of standard of each member will also be given.

Criteria:
Melody section: Guitar 1s and 2s (in professional ensembles, the stronger players are usually in this section)
Good in expression, musicality, articulation, dynamics, intonation and tone.
Guitar 1s: Main melody
Guitar 2s: Counter melody

Bass section: Guitar 3s, (4s), Contrabass, Guitarron
Good in rhythm, dynamics, and chords.

Contents of test: You will be asked to play one of the two songs (lagrima v sonsiras and vera's theme) at random. Memorizing the score will be an advantage. There will also be short chord and technique tests.

Note: You guys will be sticking to your current sections for the Vera's Theme and Lagrima V Sonsiras, as it would take time for some to relearn a new section from scratch. However, the allocation test will determine your sections for all future songs.

Thats all for now, thanks!(:

Cheers!

Next year concert

Yo everyone!

How was the NUS concert last Saturday? Fabulous, wonderful? Or "discouraging" when you think of the concert next year :)? I hope not, coz I believe we are all inspired and determined to put up the best concert ever next year all ritte! However, ahead of us lie numerous challenges that we are not allowed to falter at.
Right now, we need around 15 songs to prepare for the concert. That's a rather huge number given the amount of time left. Besides practicing to the best you can, we need your help to brainstorm together with us nice songs, with nice melodies, can be popular but it's not the most important point, songs of which melody can be recomposed to fit for ENSEMBLE.
All suggestions can be made known to EXCO through emails, msn, sms. We greatly appreciate your help!

Cheers.

P.S: Oh, and don't forget about the GUITAR TEE and YOUR BIRTHDAY! Reply our email asap all rite!

Edited on 30th May:
A reminder for the NUS guitar ensemble concert:
Date: 6th June (next saturday)
Venue: NUS university cultural center concert hall
Time: 8pm

We will be having a dinner and fun session before the concert! (: so everyone pls meet at Boon Lay MRT at 4.30pm, afterwhich we can go for the concert together.

Hi guys,

In the light of the increased cases of H1N1 virus carriers (confirmed as 4 now) in Singapore, the teachers have decided to temporarily suspend practices for the June period till the end of block test. They will continue to monitor the situation to see if things will improve.

However, we have to use the time in the holidays to brush up our guitar skills and get ready for performances (there will be many performing opportunities). Also, we have to start preparing at least fifteen songs from now on for the concert next year (which is a really short time). Therefore, all of you have to bring your guitars and scores back to practice. We will test you on your performance-readiness when school re opens.

Cheers (:

New Exco results!

Sorry, sorry...I know this is a bit lag since the new Exco already posted. It's just that I got home barely in time to catch American Idol and it ended about...20 minutes ago? The time lag is due to various reasons. XD J1s, please read the post below this! And J2s, read the post below the J1s' post.

Great.

This post is actually just to inform those who did not come and those who have forgotten (if that's possible).

President/SL: Zheng Rui
Vice President/SL: Tran Ha Duong
Student Conductor/SL: Shena Lim
Secretary: Jean Tan
Treasurer cum QM: Clara Lim
Welfare Rep!: Kuah Li Qin
SLs: Lu Jun, Juliana

Respect your 8 Exco members ok!

To all who ran, I applaud your bravery for running, whether you got in or not. This election has been rather interesting (though hurried). I think I'll start missing guitar soon, 'cause I suddenly have nothing to do. Ah well.

New Exco: Jiayou ok!
Juniors: Like I said, don't disappoint your seniors during concert! XD
Seniors: MUST REMEMBER TO SUPPORT YOUR JUNIORS. And support the senior Exco's finalfinal event, Artsfest. First and last event, right? Lol. Monday training's compulsory.

Also, to the seniors who weren't there today, the NUS Guitar Ensemble (GENUS) came down to promote their concert today. For more information, check with Jonathan.

SYF photos

Hey guys, you can check out the official SYF photos at this website: http://www.syfphotography.com/
I think there's an online order option too?
Anyway, pass the message alright!

I've also uploaded random pictures of HCGC during practice on my facebook so take a look too if you want to reminisce. XD

2009/2010 Exco Elections!

Dear J1s,

as announced during practice today, you can download the exco application form at:

It is due next Monday (4 May 09). You can hand it to any exco member, or come find me in A205 (i.e. HP Classroom at end of corridor on second floor) in the mornings (I'm usually in class from 7am until flag raising). Late submissions will not be accepted (duh).

Next Wednesday will be the presentations / Q&A / voting. You are reminded that each applicant has 1min to play a song and 1min to give a speech. You can only combine with somebody for the song part, and at most 2 people can combine (meaning a total of 2min for song for the pair, then 1min each for personal speech). Combining is completely optional. Voting will influence our eventual decision, but do not directly determine anything.

Next Friday onwards will be the interviews. We will inform you of your respective timeslots after we have collated the applications and votes on Wednesday. The interviews will probably last until the following week. Naturally, the interviews will be the main opportunity you have to convince us (current exco & teachers) that you deserve whatever post you applied for, apart from the impression we have from you thus far. Note: Section Leader applicants will be expected to demonstrate their musicality (either guitar-related or otherwise).

Results will be announced when we have come to a decision after these processes (duh).

Queries can be directed to any of the exco members or me. I don't want to post my MSN or H/P number on a public blog like this, but many of your batch-mates have my contact details, so you can get it from them.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Cheers!

I'm sure all of you would know the result by now. Anyway, I have here a piece sent to me (to post on the blog) written by Jess. So take your time to read through it. :)

SYF Results Announcer: "Hwa Chong Institution. (suspense.) Bronze."
The whole guitar ensemble sits stunned for something like 2 minutes. I feel a strange sense of calmness, then it all comes crashing down.
Its not that we played badly. On the other hand, I thought we played at 95% of our best standard. Which is super good. Neither was it due to institutional factors (ie. unforeseen circumstances), but due to the fault of the judges (and to think they call them adjudicators.)

1. Professional incompetency.
Only 1 of the 5 judges was a guitar player. They gave random comments like "You must not exaggerate dynamic contrasts" and "The bass notes were not as clear as those on the higher register". My favourite: "Many groups used tremolo. You shouldn't." (Hello, that's what the guitar is made for?)And to make matters worse, they demanded a "narrow focused sound [executed] within 1-2 milliseconds". Ms Wong says this is unachievable unless $10k guitars are used.

2. Poor acoustics.
The Republic Cultural Centre is a fantastic hall. No question about that. However, our wonderful judges chose to sit at the 2nd level. And the hall couldn't transmit lower-range notes to the 2nd level, since its more suited for vocals. Well most likely they heard a blur of bass notes (which comprise 40% of our ensemble) and didn't bother to think whether it was their problem. Oh, did I mention that the 2nd level was locked and out of bounds to everyone? Where did the transparency of judgement go to?

3. Lack of accountability.
The judges do NOT have to account for the results they give. We bore absolute faith with the SYF judging system, however we were sorely disappointed. No comments were given whatsoever, and appeals are apparently unheard of. Revealing actual scores? Not a chance.

4. Technical ineptitude.
K just before I get comments about how this is biased, I shall admit that we were technically and musically less adept than other schools, which were excellent. Cos we only practised for 4 months. (Oh, our previous conductor was rather, er, incapable.) But then of course everyone was screwed cos of factors 1 and 2.

VJC got silver, and all the groups after us got either silver/bronze. (except 1 gold the Chinese Orchestra song). And ACSI (JC) also got silver. Sounds funny? In total, there were 16 JCs. There was 1 GwH, 2 Golds, 6 Silvers, and 7 Bronzes. around there. disproportionate? You bet.

What can I say? We may have failed our expectations, but the judges failed us.

Just my humble opinion.
good luck to the other SYF groups.

--
Yup, a rather interesting piece that reminds me so much of the GP lesson I just missed today to be there for the results. And I'm sure many of us sacrificed precious studying time to be there, or for practices etc.

There wasn't much I could say today...I was rather preoccupied with the candle-lighting. And I guess I was still shocked despite refusing to admit it. I do agree with Jess about the calmness part though...I felt particularly calm, looking around and trying to read others' expressions. But on hindsight, I don't think we could've performed any much better than we did...And I was particularly glad about one thing - we were all there being shocked and upset together. Yea, we're all in this together. XD It's rather heartwarming to see the club-bonding, and having watched everyone put in so much effort for this.

I'm sure many people have said many things about what went wrong today already. I'm sure we would have all witnessed what went right today. So, I hope all of you will leave the club with the happy memories and close friendships, and especially remember today as the day HCGC attained a bronze. If you see a guitar member upset, go up and give the person a hug! Because all of us deserve it. :D

Yup, we did well today. As the cake says, we rocked.

Life goes on...

Much as I'd like to mope and mourn more, I have many other duties waiting for me to attend to. The J1 exco needs to be selected, my H3 final exams next week need to be studied for, I need to catch up on my homework etc. I'm sure all of you have your own commitments and responsibilities to uphold, and thinking about our dismal SYF results will not do anything to change them, so it's probably best to "move on" and put it behind you. Engross yourself in your school work, play some sports, or - if it isn't too painful - continue improving your guitar skills. Whatever it is, don't dwell on unfortunate (even unfair) figments of the past - once you forget them it will be as if they never happened. Ok, not really. But still, it's not the end of the world, and there are many other important things out there waiting for us. Life goes on...

Post-SYF celebrations

HEYYYY.

Well. Our batch has surely come a long way...And in two days' time, we'll be facing the final exam - SYF. After that, CCA would end, along with the tiring routine of going to practice three times a week at 3.30. (With the exception of Artsfest.) But, before we go our separate ways, there will be one last party! Post-SYF celebrations!

Yep. It's the last official practice/CCA gathering (excluding Artsfest and J2 Farewell). Sort of like an unofficial farewell gathering to hear the SYF results? So be sure to come down if you're not already going down to Republic Cultural Centre.

Venue: A305
Time: 3 to whenever - latest 7 (Results will be released at 3.15, so please be punctual.)

What are we going to do there? I'm not sure. But there will be food and other stuff to be consumed AT THE CANTEEN 'cause no food is allowed in the classroom. Also, if you can, bring along snacks and other "delicacies" as your contribution to the celebrations. We will celebrate regardless of the results of the competition, k?

All batches of Guitar club members are invited to come down for the celebrations as well to share in our joy/sorrow. :D

Finally, jiayou everyone! It's the last leg of the race, and we can't afford to let up. But I'm sure we'll exceed expectations on Tuesday, right? Afterall, it's the last MAJOR event we'll be doing together. Well, I'm looking forward to seeing you guys on Tuesday!

Post-orientation...

Lol, JJobsession. So to fuel it more...Here's the winning entry for the song competition from the group JJsir.

(Sing to the tune of 'Lemon tree')

We're sitting around in the LT room
It's just another cloudy Monday afternoon
We're wasting our time, got nothing to do
We're sitting around, we're waiting for you (point to JJ)
But nothing ever happens and we wonder

Chorus:
I wonder how, I wonder why
Jiajun is taking such a long long time
And all that we can hear, is just his guitar with our ears
We're spinning our heads round and round,
We're searching for him, but he's nowhere to be found
And all that we can do, is sing this song for you

Bridge:
Isolation is no good for you
Isolation, please stop mugging in the LT3

We're just kidding don't take it too hard
We actually love you very very much
See we even named our group after you
This shows how much we really love you
So every time you walk past we say JJsir!

Yep, just a joke. =) Haha, GC people love their pres...Thanks for the fun during orientation everyone!

JC2 BT1: Break from practices

Hi, this post is to answer all your queries regarding practices during Block Test period. There will be NO practice for the next 3 weeks or so due to Block Tests, except that you will all be required to come down and help with J1 Orientation on the Monday of March Hols. Practice will only resume on 25th or 27th March (will be confirmed once we find out what J2s are doing on Founder's Day).

As you may have realised, this means that we're effectively stopping for 3 weeks almost right before SYF, which is extremely worrying, so you have to practice really hard at home. You should be able to play both songs blindfolded when we resume practice.

- Jia Jun

ORIENTATION!

Awesome performance today everyone! It doesn't matter that no one could hear us, or that we screwed up a bit, but I'm sure everyone had fun (and was amazed by Mr. Quek and Ms. Wong). Now, the next big event is the J1 orientation! Our juniors are quite zihigh so you guys should zihigh with them. :D

Anyway, j2s please take note of this too because j2s are required to come down to help out from 1200 to 1400 hours in one of the games. I will brief you guys on your duties when you arrive, and don't be late. Also, if you cannot make it, please sms me (96663823 for those who still don't know) and inform me BEFORE THE DAY ITSELF that you cannot make it due to whatever reason. But I think all of you should try to go and have some fun with your juniors since we wouldn't be practising with them and all.

J1s! The details of the orientation are below:

Date: 16th March 2009 (Monday of March hols)
Time: Assemble at 0830 hours, end at 1415 hours
Attire: PE shirt/school t-shirt and whatever bottoms...I wouldn't recommend school uniform.
Venue: LT 3

If any of you (J1s) cannot make it, you'll have to tell me too before the day itself.

Thank you, and hope to see all of you on the 16th! To the J2s, good luck for blocks...I'm going to need it.

Training Times + Punctuality Issues

Hello people!

This is a repeat of my announcement on Monday, for the benefit of those who weren't there due to H3 and other commitments. For those who were there, just bear with me for a while. Thanks (:

TRAINING TIMES
Trainings are on the following days of the week, time as follow:
MONDAYS: 3.30-6.30pm
WEDNESDAYS: 4.30-7.30pm
FRIDAYS: 3.30-6.30pm

Please DO NOT be late! Try your best to be punctual as much as possible, because it is quite important for us to start on time and get everything ready, especially on the days that Ms Wong comes down (Mondays and Wednesdays). Please note that you will be marked as late (half attendance) if you are more than 15 minutes late.

Moreover, we might be able to end a little earlier if we start earlier (though it is quite unlikely for this to happen on Mondays and Wednesdays, haha).

By the way, thanks everyone for automatically helping to keep the footstools and music stands after every training. Saves Yisan a lot of trouble. THANKS EVERYONE! (: Let's keep up the good work (:

Anyway yeah that's all. See you guys tomorrow! Jiayou for school.

Rules and regulations & loan/renewal of guitars

Hi all. :)

RULES AND REGULATIONS

This is for the benefit of those who are not around when i made the announcement that day. Pls be informed that from today onwards (actually is that day onwards but nvm), everyone can leave their guitars in school on mon and wed. This is because we realised that many people may not be able to practise much during the weekdays due to our overloading schoolwork. Hence we hope that by doing so, we may indirectly encourage our fellow members to practise more diligently over the weekends. and of coz, if you want to bring home your guitar during the weekdays to practise, it will be highly encouraged. :) This brings me to the next rule...everyone, with guitar at home or not (to be fair to all) die die also must bring hm their guitars over the weekend to practise. SYF is coming. so everyone pls practise hard kay. :)

LOAN/RENEWAL OF GUITAR(S)

For those who are currently loaning guitar(s) from the club, pls be reminded that your previous loan has expired and you will need to sign another form (similar to that of last year) to renew your loan. Kindly get the form from me during trng. thanks. :)

For those who has yet to and is thinking of loaning guitar(s) from the club, kindly get a form from me during trng as well. Thanks. :)

PS: if you have any strong objections or suggestions to e rules and regulations or loaning of guitars above, pls feel free to discuss w me or any other exco members. thx. :)

New Practice Schedule

Hi.

After a short vote/discussion thingy during practice today, the club has decided to change practice henceforth to Mondays (3-6pm), Wednesdays (4-7pm) and Fridays (3-6pm). The later timing for Wednesdays is to accomodate Ms Wong's schedule. The choice of days is to ensure that everybody can come for at least 2 practices a week, and see Ms Wong at least once a week.

This practice schedule will take effect from next week onwards, until further notice.

Auditions results

Hi. After conducting auditions today, the SLs held a short discussion, and decided to divide all of you into 4 groups. They are: "most likely in", "maybe in", "maybe out" and "a bit GG". This is to avoid making anyone too confident or condemning anyone too soon. However, it should serve as a rough gauge of your current standard, so treat it as such. Those in "most likely in", keep up the good work; those in "maybe in" you need to improve some more, but you show some promise; those in "maybe out" and "a bit GG"... well duh, practise MUCH MUCH more. And, almost everybody needs to work on the following-conductor's-directions aspect, though some more than others. Without further ado, here are the groupings.

"Most likely in"
Jia Jun
Kanzy
Winnie
Wei Han
Sheena
Jeremy
Jonathan
Yu Lin
Zheng Rui

"Maybe in"

*Those who did not come for practice today, please arrange a make-up audition slot with Sheena ASAP.

Auditions / Practice Schedule

Hi. This is a repeat of my announcement during practice today, posted for the benefit of those who were not present or were not listening.

Practice in 2009

As Ms Wong is only able to come down on Mon and Thu afternoons, we have no choice but to hold practices on these 2 days to accomodate her schedule. The third day of self-practice will be held on Wednesday. Hence, there will be 3 compulsory sessions per week for now.

We will also hold make-up sessions on Fridays, as we understand that with various commitments (esp. H3s), some of you may not be able to make it on all 3 aforementioned days. If you miss any of the 3 main practices, then you must come on Friday so that we can update you on Ms Wong's instructions and make sure your standard remains on par with the rest of the ensemble. This session will be optional for those who can make it on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

All practices will begin promptly at 1500hrs and end at 1800hrs (unless Ms Wong feels the need to extend a little past that - then too bad).

All practices will be held in the third floor classrooms in the left wing of block A.

SYF Auditions

We have decided to push the auditions back one week to immediately after Chinese New Year. It will be held on the Thursday and/or Friday of the CNY week (i.e. 29th/30th Jan 2009). This is to allow Ms Wong more time to work with us to improve our playing in aspects other than merely getting the notes and timing right, as well as to let you all capitalise on the long CNY break to practice hard. However, that means that the standards expected for the auditions are consequently higher than before.

The audition groups have already been posted by Sheena. In case this wasn't made clear before: the groupings are to ensure that there is one player of each guitar part for Salut D Amor; for La Chanson you will just play whatever part you're supposed to play, and it Doesn't Matter that there will be 2 of certain parts in a group. If by any chance we have misallocated you such that your group does not have at least one player of each part of La Chanson, do let Sheena know ASAP.

We will assess all of you according to the SYF judging rubrics, which are as follows:

50% Technique

- Articulation
- Dynamics
- Intonation
- Rhythm
- Tone

50% Musicianship

- Balance
- Blend
- Expression
- Group Dynamics
- Interpretation
- Phrasing Style

Sleep-deprived people.

Uh yea. Two things will be posted here...Firstly, the namelist for orientation and cca exhibition subcomms. After that, I'm putting up pictures of the designs that Zheng just drew up for SYF attire for girls.

As the people who stayed back know, the concert subcomm people will be merged with the openhouse subcomm people then split into the CCA exhibition and Orientation subcomms this year. I'm randomly allocating groupings. Weihan and I will tell you what you have to do later...Just take note for now.
CCA Exhibition Subcomm
Weihan - In charge
Jonathan
Winnie
Tuan Anh
Jeremy
Fenglin
Kyna
Kewei
Zhao Rui
Meng Yuan

Orientation Subcomm
Gloria
Charlotte
Desiree
Suxiang
Elissa
Yulei
Yanjun
Lisa
Lowell
Chanyi
Jess
Yulin
Yuhan
I hope I didn't miss out any names. Tell me if I did, ok?

CCA Exhibition subcomm handles the upcoming CCA exhibition after the official arrival of our juniors on 2 Feb. I think it's like 1st/2nd week of Feb. You have to do banner painting, roster duties, come up with gimmicks, etc....Anything to attract J1s to our CCA.
Orientation subcomm basically plans out the orientation programme for the J1s. Specifically, the day camp orientation in the March hols and other J1-J2/J1-J1 bonding activities. I will need to meet those people in this subcomm on Wednesday at 2.30 at guitar room, after CT and before CCA begins.

Next....SYF ATTIRE.

Zheng was lazy. So anyway, she just drew these two diagrams and sent them to me.

So the first (on the left) is basically with butterfly sleeves, the second(on the right) is with straight sleeves.
The material will be georgia black chiffon over like...a lining (maybe satin) of say, maroon or dark gold. So the dotted part represents the cutting of the inside, which is the lining. Georgia black chiffon is semi-transparent if I'm not wrong. It's somewhat like a softer version of organza. The dresses are both long (floor-length) and there's no choice there.
So please take note of this because we'll be voting on Wednesday for the colour of the lining (dark maroon or dark gold) and style of sleeves (butterfly or straight). Guys too. For the colour, that is...Because your shirt colour will be dependent on whether we choose maroon or gold. If maroon, your shirt colour will either be pink or light red. If gold, your shirt colour will be a pale yellow if I'm not mistaken.
That's all, folks. I'm sleepy. Good night.

HCguitar's 200th post!

Just wanted to chope it.

Haha...Anyway, today's the last sports session! And it was really fun. Our two juniors joined in too. Remember to say hi to them if you see them in our guitar practices. Their names are Zheng Rui and Randy (if I didn't get the spelling wrong)...But this is not the end of club lunches/meals.

As the start of school approaches, it also concludes the end of all the fun and games and partying in guitar club. But before that, I've got to say a huge thank you to: all those who attended the chalet, the chalet subcomm, and our 2 seniors for helping us to check in and joining in the fun.

Now, we have to mug really hard for both studies and guitar (don't forget to check your audition groupings below). There's practice on Monday at 3 pm! Our conductor will be there, so please practise your pieces, especially Black Orpheus, really hard. See you there!

To those in concert subcomm, you're now in orientation subcomm. More details will be provided in time to come.

IMPT INFO ABT GUITAR CHALET (updated!)

Hi all!

The EXCO has just started the relay to ask (those who will be going for the chalet) who will be meeting at Tampines MRT at 2.30pm on Monday. If you have not received the message yet, don't worry cos I think the relay's in progress. If you still haven't received it by tonight, please sms me (Tricia) to tell me whether you would be meeting us there or going to Aloha Changi by yourself.

Here are some important information for all who're going for guitar chalet (both those who're staying over and coming only in the day/night but not staying over)
1) Be at Tampines MRT by 2.30pm, for those who do not know how to get to Aloha Changi. All of us (including the subcomm) will be meeting at that time too. We'll all check in at 3pm, cos the earliest check-in time is 3pm. So for the rest who're coming later, you can reach there anytime after that!

2) Keep the receipts of the stuff that you have helped to buy for the chalet. Need to use them to claim back your $ during the chalet.

3) Bring music/movies/portable speakers if you have. Can someone who has a portable vcd/dvd/cd player please please please bring theirs along? Thanks alot, we're desperate cos no one in the subcomm has it and I think we'll all be quite bored if there's no main source of entertainment. There's a tv at the chalet but we're not sure if they have DVD/VCD players.

4) Bring at least $15 to pay for the booking of the chalet. (VERY VERY IMPORTANT!)

There'll be more updates, so PLEASE CHECK THIS BLOG REGULARLY OVER THE NEXT 2 DAYS (including today, of course).

Also, below is the list of people who're staying over for the chalet/coming in the day. Please inform me if there are any discrepancies.

Chalet details (just in case you forgot)

I hope you read this before you leave for the chalet (that means I'm assuming you check the blog regularly).

If you don't know yet, the chalet is ALOHA CHANGI CHALET K. You can take 29 from Tampines MRT if I'm not wrong, and go to netheravon road where Aloha Changi is. If you meet in groups and are afraid of getting lost, you can call someone from the subcomm to fetch you or something too. The chalet subcomm consists of Tricia, Kanzy, Sheena, Zhiying, Jiayi, Huanting and Melissa. If you really don't know any of their numbers then just contact anyone from the exco...According to the relay system, you would have the number of at least one exco member.

Also, if anyone has a mahjong set/any other games, bring it!

Come at around...3 pm? And don't forget your food and money, and clothes if you're staying over.

I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone on monday. Bye!
