Barnes’ lovely Impressions of Japan, to Joe Hisashi’s (film score composer for Spirited Away) inspiring Anime Medley, Tinsagunu Hana, Lecuona’s sensual Malaguena, Piazolla’s spirited Michelangelo 70, J. Garland’s In the Mood, and entertaining music from animated feature, The Prince of Eygpt, Expose! and GENUS promise an enjoyable afternoon of music and an unforgettable experience.

Founded in 1981 by Alex Abisheganaden, the NUS Guitar Ensemble (GENUS) is a 50-member strong ensemble comprising undergraduates and alumni. GENUS is the region's first Niibori guitar ensemble and the pioneer group in Singapore to use Niibori guitars. GENUS won first prize (ensemble) at the Singapore Guitar Festival and was fourth in the 2nd International Festival and Competition for Guitar Orchestra in Rheine, Germany. Formed in 2005, Expose! is a guitar ensemble mainly made up of alumni members from GENUS.

Well, it's really good to get some exposure and see how the pros play in an ensemble! Pretty much like us, except they use Niibori guitars too. It's free and it's at the esplanade! Maybe it'll serve as some inspiration for our upcoming concert currently untitled =) HCGC alumni member performing too!! Jiayou everyone! Practise hard, and see you when school reopens haha :D

Lessons, Audtitions and Pieces to finish

Hi all,

We've talked to Mr Shi, Lessons will be counted at a cheaper price and by head so there is a chance that it'll be below $40+. We'll try to cap it at $40 though. So far the sec4s (3 of them have indicated interest) and about 3 of our batch people have indicated interest. If you're interested do let me/chen sin or vivien know asap cause lessons might commence next week.

Audition results are out. We tried to pass as many as possible, resulting in some people being required to come back to re-audition for 1-2 pieces and some for all. The 2nd audition will be in january so please take the time to practise. Treat the audition seriously because the consequences are serious.

Last of all, pieces to finish, Mr Shi will be coming down on the 17th and 19th and he wants us to finish till the first page of spring message for the training on the 17th and the whole thing by the 19th. Please work hard to meet the target. Once again like what he said, trainings are not for you to learn your pieces, they are for us to coordinate and brush up on dynamics. If you come to training without having practised, you might as well not come for training cause you'll just drag everyone down. We'll be much stricter on this now as requested by Mr Shi.

International Guitar Fest, Audition and some updates

Hi everyone (: hope you guys are having a great holiday.



Anyway, just some updates regarding the things that i've alr talked abt during trainings.


First, this is a poster of the 7th international guitar festival. try to join, 60% subsidy provided by national arts council. If you're interested call me or wht. cant really rmb all the details (esp the monetary ones =/ off my mind, but i think a day's seminar is 120, 2 days 220 and 3 days dno wht. masterclass observer think is 10bucks? or smthing lidat. competition is 45, concert and recital depends on ur cat, ranging from 20 - 40 or smthing lidat. yupp)





So if you're interested you just uh. pay in full first, get the receipt and pass to alicia to claim ur 60%. applies for both the festival and the competition so in case any of you joined the competition take note that it can be claimed too. yupp :D

Mock audtition was carried out last training. so for those who came you shd roughly noe how it wld be. not the toughest of auditions so dun get too stress up k :D anw. Do take note tht the audition is crucial. First audition is on the 10th. 2nd audition for those who failed and who cant make it when sch reopen. if u cant make it for both come and find me or else i'll just take it that you don't wan to join guitar next yr.

Tuners,

For those who wants to purchase a tuner at $15 let any of the exco members know. we're buying in bulk accessories and guitar for our next year batch so if u wan to buy anything u can buy w us? cos it'll be much cheaper. ok i've sidetracked, but anyway,

its a clip on tuner, with a mic fn too so can be used in ur conventional way, has led display that turns red when wrong pitch and green when correct, can change tuning fom A=435 to 445 i think, main think is can be changed la. can tune in diff keys. and uh. is super cheap. so ya if u wan 1 let us know asap.

And for other things too. like guitar. there are already a few people buying guitars together with us le so ya xD join in the fun la. (if ur parents wont kill u that is)

other things u may want to buy include strings etc.

Attendance.

probably the worst thing to talk abt but also the most impt. so lyk wht i've said during training, but with some clarification. and this 1 will hold and its in black and white so yupp. when in doubt come to refer to this.

only 11 person will not hit the 80% mark if we only take term 3,4 + holiday training. so we're taking that. as for the 11 person, most of them they reallyreally don't appear at all and you wont even know them. so we really got no choice cos the sch needs 80% attendance.

HOWEVER, do take note that the 11person is calculated base on the fact that u attended ALL holiday trainings. so if u happily pon-ed (which quite alot seemed to O.o) most of the training, im not sure whether i'll be still 11. this is really the best that we can do alr. we've quarrelled/fight/poked/strangled/discussed/negotiated with each other for a supppper long time so ya. i really really think this is the max we can go alr. so try not to pon training alrite, its ur cca after all.

2nd thing. and the thing that needs to be clarified. What is considered as a valid excuse.

Rmb me saying that everything is considered as a valid excuse? that was said with the assumption that plain weird O.o ideas like pon training purposely isnt even within the scope of discussion. so let me clarify myself.

Activities such as School activity, Chalet, Family holiday, work attachment will be considered as valid excuse. for holiday trainings at least which seem to have alot of controversy over it. During normal training nothing shd take priority over ur cca unless u have got valid excuse lyk having make-up lesson etc. when in doubt go to cheryl.

BUT. theres a catch to it. rmb i also said that u must find out wht we did and learn them by the next training? yupp. so after having ur valid excuse (yayye). you're suppose to 1) find out wht u missed. 2) learn them. 3) find me for ur "mini audition"

so the whole process will go like that

1) Find cheryl at least 1 week in advance if you know that you're gonna miss training for a valid excuse with evidance and stuff. Cheryl will note down the relevant details after verifying it.

2) Find out for urself wht u missed, don't expect MIs to give u private 1-on-1 tuition, its not in their job scope but if they're nice enuff. ohwells. so you're probably get like a summarize version of wht u nid to do and everything go do it urself.

3) Find me latest 1 week after (i.e. the next training when you're suppose to come back). arrange a time for ur mini audition to check that you've learnt all that you're suppose to learn.

4) If you pass, i'll let cheryl noe. den she'll cancel out those training (i.e not to be counted)

so,

scenario 1 : if u pass, training not counted.

scenario 2: if u fail, i'll let cheryl noe, taken as didnt come for training.

scenario 3: didnt tell cheryl in time, counted as miss training

scenario 4: told cheryl but didnt find me 1 week after, i wont tell cheryl anything and after 1 week she'll still take it as missed training

yupp. so pls be responsible in doing wht you're suppose to if u have to miss training. thx :D

by 3rd dec - Finish lambada (or minimum bar 40), spring msg bar 21 (or isit 25?) the part where i played to last training la.

by 5th dec - finish lambada, spring msg bar (?) to be comfirmed, juniors coming

10th - audtition, spring msg (?), Mr shi coming - bush up all pieces till samba

12th - spring msg

17th - finish spring msg, Mr shi coming - brush up all pieces

19th - Mr Shi coming - brush up all pieces

So by 19th dec, we'll be able to play shan liang, shi jie, Morenita, Samba, Lambada, Spring Msg

Next year first combined piece with junior : Cant help falling in love

In between we might have more piece from Mr Shi, and the piece that i'll arrange? (if i can find some time la ><) but lyk we agreed, if i arrange we have to learn super fast. yupp.

New piece lambada and Lessons

Hi everyone,
This is wayway too early but just an idea of what we will be playing. This is the new piece from Mr Shi. Its called Lambada its a latin dance. Hear an extract of it here.

An update of pieces we're playing and when we can finish (hopefully)

Samba-Etude (7th Nov to finish all notes and dynamics, final brush up by Mr Shi on 12th Nov)
Lambada (To be given out on 7th Nov. Start learning by 19th Nov. Finish by End of Dec)
Spring Message (Already given out. To be learned co-currently with pieces at all times. Finish by End of Dec)
Can't Help Falling in Love (1st Combined piece with J1s next year. to be given out when J1s come in)


This may seem alot but it really isn't. Samba is a combined score so each page only has like 3 lines. We usually ask to finish 1 page within a week or so, which is probably around 12 bars or so, unless you missed out on trainings. But anyway, now that everything is over it is time to really focus on cca and make sure that we can establish ourselves as a strong ensemble.



Just another random update: Future J1s (current Sec 4) may be joining us for our holiday trainings so. ya. jiayou.






The 2nd thing involves lessons. From next year onwards, while the club will always keep its stand that its members do not require musical bg to join, members must take lessons after joining. This is really to prepare the next batch well for the syf 2009 so that they can get their gold with honors. So technically speaking it only applies to the next batch. However, since we're arranging lessons for them, those of you who are interested can also join lessons as they are cheaper and in school.

Pricing at the moment: $40 for 4 Lessons (regardless of grade)
Duration: 1 hour
Teacher: Mr Shi
Venue: School
Class size: 6

As for the pricing we're still trying to reduce it further, the final teacher might not be Mr Shi due to pricing reasons but rest assured we'll make sure the guitar teacher is good.
(Pricing starting from next year might increase to $48)

This is a recording of how it should sound like. not the best recording cos my nails are like >< tearing off. ahwells. ya i hope everything is correct. just a rough idea. jiayou it isnt too hard once u get the strum pattern correct.

Samba

Hi ppl! sorry i know samba guitar 3 is like hard la and its like quite tough to finish by 7th but we have to move on alr so just try ur best and practise as much as possible. we shd be able to finish if we practise conscientiously. yupp. here is a recording of samba. nth that u all don't already know but uh just to hear the rest. esp the staccato part. again not the best recording cos my nails are tearing >< yupp. jiayou. thanks.

Training tml

Hi training will start at 3 tml. Venue to be comfirmed pls check the board. We're trying to push it to as early as possible but there are still lessons for some of us before 3. sorry. yupp. Try to bring a nail file if you've got 1 cos we'll be going through nails.

Guitar 4 - Samba

Hello guitar 4. While playing samba im sure all of you would silently grumble and curse and swear for the misfortune of getting such an easy part. Fear not, out of consideration of your feelings, there are some new requirements added to guitar 4 to make it. more challenging :D


Disclaimer: This shd alr be done automatically, not only by guitar 4s but by all guitar parts. its just that we dun use to enforce it but will slowly pay more emphasis to it in the future. But for now, guitar 4s jiayou.

Added requirements for guitar 4:
1) Nothing has change, your notes will still be the same. However, please make sure that you rest the notes you are suppose to and those notes don't ring to the next bar (if the chord has changed)

e.g. pg1. bar 1.
Chord: Am, Notes: A C E
note you're playing: E (diatonic)

pg1 bar 2
Chord: Dm, Notes: D F A
Note you'r playing: F (Diatonic) [i.e. E (from the previous bar) would be chromatic now and doesnt belong to this chord. so you have to stop the E before playing the F to make sure it doesnt ring in this chord]

however, in this case when u play F, E would already be stop cos they are on the same string, but there are cases in the piece where u have to stop (e.g. pg2 last line first bar the ringing open A) so analyse the piece yourself. I'm sure your MI will go through with you all wht to do.


yupp thats all. don't worry it isnt as scary as it sound. Eileen will go through with you all tml.


and for the other guitars: Try to do it if possible too. but it will be harder for you all. and most of the time there wont be open ringing strings so. i dno. discuss w ur mi whether u wan to do it anot.

its smthing that most guitar players will i dno. choose to ignore. but it IS impt. its as good as changing pedal on the piano. imagine holding the damper pedal for the whole piece -.- not really much of a prob for other instruments cos they don't face the prob of ringing notes. (talking abt mainstream instruments here. of cos there are exceptions like uh. the zither, but ah wells)

Samba Guitar 3

Uh this only concern guitar 3's for samba. just a few tips for u guys when u all go on with ur prac. jiayou ppl.


General:

1) In guitar notation, Up arrow means down stroke while Down arrow means up stroke. seems weird? not really. Up means from low note to high note. which translate to a downstroke on ur guitar and vice versa.

2) If u look at pg 2 2nd bar. the dot there is a dotted quaver, and the 2nd up stroke is a semi-quaver etc.

3) the ./. means play in similiar way as the previous bar (i.e. play th same rhythm)



For those not barring:

1) Pls do not choke for the rest. tilt ur hand slightly inwards to touch the strings with the whole thumb portion to stop the chord from ringing.


(P.S esp to those who were there for last trng. SORRY i think i made a mistake >< href="http://www.chordimages.com//ramimages/i2/E7chord_020100_1.png">here this is the slackest way to press E7

But usually we do this: here cos if we only play the trebles it would sound the same as Emaj if we don't do that. (add the D at 2nd string)


2) As for the rest of the chords u can find how to hold them here

There shd be no prob with Am, Dm and G, but we'll standardize the chord shape for E9 and Am9 cos there are alot of variation. Will ask Mr Shi again this wed, but ya for now just use this.


For those barring:

1) Various Bar location:
Am - 5th fret, based on 6th string
Dm - 5th fret, based on 5th string
E7 - 7th fret, based on 5th string
G - 3rd fret, based on 6th string
C - 8th fret, based on 6th string
E9 - here actually u can play the 6th string too. cos its a E but just make sure during the rest u cant just lift up ur bar but have to stop with ur R. hand
Am9 - here

2) u can actually rest by just lifting ur bar. unless there's a open string e.g. E9.

Guitar Recital

Hey pls rmb that there is a guitar recital tml at vch at 8pm. yupp. just come if u want to.


Anyway, for those who want we'll be meeting earlier at 6.30pm at city hall MRT to eat dinner, 散步，bond, shopping and wht not. so do come if u can make it! and uh sms anyone if u wan come but am late, or else we might accidentally leave w/o u ><

This is the last piece he's gonna play tml - sevilla. (I think). Its played by john williams at a concert in 1987. quite cool. 1 of my favourite piece. (sound is abit sucky though - uh i just realise why -.- i kinda made it sucky paiseh)

And this is another piece by paco de lucia. one of the best flamenco guitarist. (John williams is a classical guitarist <3)

Samba-Etude and Spring's Message

Hi ppl. This is regarding today's training. From now on there will be less sectionals unless we need to correct a a certain parts as there are some of u who don't like the idea of sectionals. It will be mostly combined and u get to choose which part u wan to play (but not cfm that you'll get it in case too many ppl chose that). But there are implications with this. First, we will no longer be spoonfeeding each bar and each line of the piece and how to play it anymore. You are required to go home and practise yourself, be ready for the combined for every training. There's no way to smoke through cos there will still be auditions before major events and we'll definitely not let those who cant play through. Like before, there will be a MI in charge of each parts taken, thus forming ur "section".

Having said this, next monday will be a combined, and next wed also a combined. Mr Shi will be coming down again next wed. Please finish until pg 2 of samba-etude for monday's training. (We know that its slightly harder for guitar 2 and 3. just try your best. but since we're can finish 1 pg within 50 mins, pg 2 shdn't be a problem. try ur best la. if cant at least go to lyk pg 1.5) thx.


And for those who didnt turn up today, pleaseplease come for the next training cos alot is like happening. We're started abit on spring msg today and finished pg 1 out of 4 of samba-etude. if you still haven't decided which parts you wan go look for the respective MIs asap to get the scores and start practising.

The scores and sent for photocopying already. O a v. impt thing. don't spread the score as Mr Shi has sold the piece to some sch so we are not supp to spread it and can only use it for internal use. So please don't photocopy or pass to ur friend or leave the score lying around. Do collect the scores (samba-etude) from your MI on fri so that you can prac during the weekend. We'll get the scores for spring msg and pass u guys at a later date. But our focus isn't on spring message, the piece we're learning is samba. We'll most probably only like spend 15 mins every training on spring msg. yupp. so just prac abit of spring msg we can take like 2-3 months to finsih it its okay (expected duration to finish samba is ard 1 month or less with no more sectionals).

Last of all, for those who can try not to cut ur nails from now on. i'll using some time to go through tone production, nail filing etc next mon. Cos most of us dno how to properly use nails yet so either we don't leave nail or we've got excessively long nail. ya. bring along a nail filer + buffer if you have. Thx.

Open House

Hi everyone now that promos are over lets jiayou for guitar :D Anyway, next event that'll be coming up will be open house (next fri 12/10/07). We will be performing from 10.20 to 10.30 and 1.20 to 1.30. Performance is optional but we really hope everyone would perform. Training for the performance will start next tues from 1-4pm (in replacement of monday's trianing due to fos). There will also be rehearsal on wed from 1.10 to 1.30 and training after that. Do expect training to drag cos we're really short of time. If you want to perform contact your MIs and let them know which guitar part you're playing for shan liang. yupp. thanks.

for open house we will also be having a booth at the central plaza if you don't mind helping out by mending the booth den let your MIs know too. thanks. Do help out if possible? yupp (:

and last of all, club tee design is open again! it was pushed back cos that time was really too rushed le. so yupp this will be the final deadline do design if you can cos its for the club and now that promos is over. haha. the final deadline is 17th of oct.

Hey hi everybody.

After fri's performance this place has become like dead. Probably nobody knows what to post or don't feel like posting ba. nvm i shall break the silence. Yes on fri we did screw up. and its really quite bad. have been emo-ing for the past 2 days and im sure there are some of you who have emo-ed also. but ahwells. finally xiang tong le. Theres really no point in emo-ing so much.lets just move on and practise more after promos alrite?

BUT. heres to those ppl who still believe in miracle. At least 3 teachers came up to me and told me the enjoyed the performance. "the spanish piece" to be exact. but i dno which 1 they're referring to cos the emcees kinda screw up the order. but i guess its morenita cos even an idiot wld noe that shi jie is in no way spanish. so ya. kudos for the club x)

anyway. we've finally come to an end. pleasepleaseplease mug hard for ur promos. those that haven't done any tutorial (erm) please get down to doing it. those who've mug until chu sheng ru hua le go get more things to mug. those who've mug finish everything, start mugging for j2 stuff. the btmline, just start mugging. cos we really don't wan any1 in guitar to get retained. yupp so jiayou! don't feel sad over whatever happened last fri.

for those of you who were like reallyreally impressed by strings' performance, don't be demoralize k. we will get there one day. its just a matter of practise and skills like wht i said that day. but for now, just chill and mug for promos. hmm heres a video which i kinda found recently. by this korean player playing a waltz by lauro. i cut the video so whats showing is waltz no.2 only. quite a nice piece la. will be uploading more stuff so that u guys wont miss guitar too much x)

anyway, while mugging for promos plspls rmb to practise once in awhile too so that you don't go back to nothing when we have practices again after promos. Hope none of u became so sad until u tot of giving up guitar <3>


and last of all, sorry if i appear to be super mean at times, its just that when we have got 15 more mins till our performance we really got no time to lose. ya. so i sincerely apologize if i've hurt anyone unintentionally. hello everyone,
today has been a tiring and long day. many things have happened today.

first, i'd like to apologise for the outcome of the rehearsal today, many things were unable to plan in advanced due to the tight schedule and the limited amount of resources. it was confusing then and everyone seemed lost. hopefully, tomorrow's rehearsal would be better. as for tomorrow's rehearsal, dinner will be provided, so please meet at canteen at 5.00pm for dinner tomorrow.

Secondly, sorry to everyone, especially to those whom were there and to jianan for flaring up today. as can be seen most of the exco, especially the MIs are very stressed and frustrated over the performances when facing with the prospect of performing on stage within such a short period and the organizers pressing us for details for the performance.

Hope that everyone can try and understand that we are trying very hard to make things work here, we're new and jus got handed over at a really bad timing blocktest - handover - promos.
there is hardly enough time to prepare to perform on stage for events like the CIP concert and the teacher's day concert yet we really don't want you guys to waste ur 2 years in guitar jus learning ensemble pieces and be confined to playing in the LTs or classrooms.

however, guitar ensemble will not progress if we do not work as one. MIs can teach you how to play, help you when you're stuck and give you extra practice lessons and the other exco members can organize events like CIP, Chalet, Club badge and T-shirt. However we REALLY DO NEED you guys to help us out too. there are some things that cannot be done by ourselves. Auditions need to be passed to participate in concert (I failed too due to rhythmic issues), however MIs too have their personal life and matters to attend to. So please take the initiative to approach them for auditions if you cannot attend the stipulated audition date. Each section has 1 MI + the HMI we have 1 mi to around 10 members? They can only do so much and remind you so much. They too are humans. the same applies to the other exco members whom are trying to come up with more events for you to enjoy your time in guitar, however, responses have been generally (limx->0) veri little/dead. unless we can receive more input from you guys we are unable to proceed further with the planning of events. so please, WE NEED YOUR HELP.

here are the details of tml's rehearsal.

Venue: Auditorium

there will be no practise before the rehearsal, so you guys just need to come down to the audi straightaway at 5.30pm. of course, please do collect ur guitars from the guitar room before going to the audi. there will be people stationed at the guitar room to open it for everyone to collect their guitars. then very importantly too, there's no need to worry for dinner, as the organisers of the CIP concert will be providing us with dinner on both rehearsals on thurs and fri, as well as on the actual concert day on sat.

here's an update for tml's practise.

What it entails: Teachers' Day concert rehearsals + our own combined practise

yep so we will be having our own combined practise as well, other than the teachers' day concert rehearsals. as all of you know, we are simply still not prepared to perform as an ensemble yet. yea though it's undeniable that we have made much progress together as a whole in previous practise sessions, but still, it also undoubtedly true that we still have a long way to go, to improve on the songs till they are of substantial standard.

i have faith that all of us will want to present an enjoyable performance of a good standard to the entire school, especially teachers, since it will be a TEACHERS' DAY concert. yea and for CIP concert, worse still, to the public. so please, dun be late for the practise tml unless you really have valid reasons, and we will be starting as soon as there's a large enough number of people present. do take these few practises with even greater seriousness, and train hard during the few hours that we have together, because you and i are both aware that the performances are just this saturday and next friday.

to get to a really serious note, it has become an unanimous agreement among the MIs, that we will remove any member who does not turn up for any of the coming rehearsals without a valid reason from the upcoming performances. so please don't waste all your efforts so far, practising the songs and preparing for auditions, by just not turning up for rehearsals.

finally, please also note that thursday's rehearsal will be a FULL-DRESS rehearsal, in which everyone needs to bring their full-black attire on that day. again, anyone that is unable to do so will be not allowed onto stage.

This period will be very busy and hectic, and all of us will probably be very tired but we have to practice hard to put up a good show on Saturday night and on Teachers' Day, so lets 加油! We can do it! :)

Ya. for Shi Jie guitar 1. chorus that part can actually all be played at 1 position. but just fyi la.. as in thats just 1 beauty of guitar. u can play the same not at all diff positions and you're supp to explore the best position to play it. so running all over the place is like. bad. but its alrite. don't bother changing, no time le.

yupp. thats about all the common things i can rmb that kept repeating itself over and over today. anyway..

congrats to those who've passed the first audition. you guys have put in hard work and we can see it. but do still practise hard cos. Not all of you passed well. There are some of you who are like at the tipping point which resulted in a mini debate among the MIs. so do still practise k. (even for those who are like. amazingly quite good alr). yupp.

BUT super imptly. don't feel sad if you've failed auditions. 2nd audition is coming up and uh. just jiayou for it cos alot of you are like. borderline fail. its not like we are sadistic and enjoy failing people. but if we were to pass you we'll just be lying to ourselves. cos. there are parts that need to be worked on and we just want to hear one more time how it sounds like after you've worked on it. and we've told u all ur problems individually alr by now so. ya do work on them.

oh. and sorry the auditions took so long. we kinda dragged cos it didnt only end up as a audition we told u guys ur prob on the spot too. Thats why it took muchmuch longer than expected. sorrysorry. esp to the last few grps. so sorry.

So first audition is over! happy. o try to cheer up and don't feel so stressed? cos some of you can play 1 lo. its just you're just SO stress until we've to come and see you again on mon again. and make you even more stress. wht an irony lo. just play well and get it over and done with ba x)

For the auditions, its very encouraging to see some people reallyreally putting in effort to learn the piece. they're incredible. even more so to those few who have just joined us but yet can already play the piece. we were delighted la. continue jiayou-ing k!

but at the same time. there are also a few who just cant really be bothered with auditions. can tell de lo. its just diff levels of cant be botheredness. from being complacent and not learning the piece well etc. To faking by attempting to move some fingers to blend into the crowd. This kinda things doesn't work at all the lo. the MIs are not ben de can. and furthermore, believe it or not. we don't look at you. your mistake transmit to our ears faster than it does to our eyes. thats why sometimes we might seem like we aren't bothered with sitting down and listening but trust me. we can still detect any and every mistake. forget about smoking through auditions. it definitely doesnt work.

wow. super long post. and i wan go slp le. lol. k shall go record the guitar 1 that slur part now.. yup jiayou ppl! most of u SHD if nth goes wrong get pass audition successfully. trust me, it hurts us just as much, if not even more to fail people. we don't like it x) eww.

last but not least. please msg yours MIs your choice for club tee and the size that you want. the designs are on the club board. choose 1 or 2. 1 is the green colour theme guitar thingo. 2 is the boy/girl 1. yupp. and if any1 of you designed and haven't show us your design, just uh. call me or the MIs immediately. i think call me la. quite free tml. ya. okay! i shall go slp. nights.

Auditions

Hi all

A long day today, especially for groups which had to wait for a longer time. But you all should know why the auditions took so long right, since you were in the room yourself. As in auditions are not just about passing or not passing, the MIs want to tell you all what you have to work on and stuff like that. And some of you were clearly nervous la!

And also. The MIs had a thorough discussion that ended at about 9 plus, so yep that explains why the MIs called you all so late although we said we would call by latest 9.30pm.

If you have passed, congrats but please continue practicing, especially to work on the stuff the MIs pointed out to you, yep don't let us down hahaha. For those who didn't, don't be discouraged. Some of you are already almost there, just some stuff you have to work on so that the MIs can ensure the people performing are of a certain standard. Some of you were quite nervous and didn't play as well as you could have. And some of you really have to put in more effort.

And. Like what denyse says, "It's really painful to fail your own section member." It's seriously hard la ahahaha. But your results have to be decided and agreed on by every MI, so...

Everyone jiayou!

(Pls check guitar board to look at club tee designs, and vote for one by smsing your MI, together with the size you want, by thursday noon if possible, because we have to collate numbers, sizes, and finally send it down for printing.)

For monday, those who passed auditions, please go to LT3 at 4pm for combined session. Meanwhile, there would be re-auditions at E301 at 4pm too.

CCA registration (updated)

Hey please read my previous post about CCA registration. Here are more updates about it.


Mrs Koh is still processing all the application to join guitar. ISP kinda screwed up or smthing. cos she claims that she didnt see any j1s signing up for guitar. But nvm its alrite. she has the full list now already, its just waiting for the system to process it so please wait patiently for the guitar cca to pop up. IF all else fails, she says that she'll just add us in 1 by 1 manually. yupp.

2nd. Registering for activities. If you log into ISP, you'll see a full range of activities under guitar. Please DO NOT choose any of the rest because. uh. they're useless -.- the only 2 valid activities are 1) Varolari 2) SYF. don't add things like teacher's day, open house blahblah in yet because we're not suppose to add activity that we haven't done yet into our isp (cos she claims that we might end up not going for it due to unforseen circumstances). and furthermore, those activities are invalid. they're just there for show, its some weird problem with isp also (im referring to those activities where u the date is lyk from dno when to 2016 1..) . so ya. the only 2 activities that you need to take note are varolari and syf. do sign up for the necessary activity before wednesday (15/8/07).

Hello da jia hao!

Here is just to let u know what kind of feedbacks we generally got today after today's feedback session. Basically, we've got quite a number of people thinking that the half attendance thing is pretty strict and redundant. As such, the exco has decided to abolish the half attendance thing for not bringing ur guitar for now. Let me make myself clear, this does NOT mean it is alright not to bring your guitar. It just means that if for some strange reason, somehow, you've forgotten to bring your guitar once in a blue moon, then its okay. as in no half attendance thing will be awarded to you. But we will not tolerate people like every single session come in to borrow club guitar. for a few reasons, 1) you're in guitar club, this is your cca. how can you go for training without even your guitar??? i mean i've nevernever heard the same prob from any other musical grps before lo. 2) club guitars are limited, and there are some people who reallyreally need them (e.g. guitar spoilt etc) if we loan club guitar out to people who've got guitar but just refuse to bring them then its really unfair to those who really need them.

yupp. I may sound harsh in the previous para. but this is really impt, or rather crucial. we recognize that half attendance is harsh. but please try to empathize that members coming for trainings without guitar is. uhm. traumatizing.

we'll keep track of the situation and if it really becomes too bad where you've got like a huge chunk of people purposely not bringing their guitar then the half attendance will definitely come back into play.

So anyway, thanks again for all the suggestion giving to us. do feel free to drop us an email or just talk to us in person, or i dno. tell us if u think that we can improve in anyway, no matter how small or insignificant it might seem. it matters alot to us. yupp. thanks! x)

Eh we know umm some people have CS on wednesday right. Please do tell the MIs, (call/sms), like what AG you're from. Also contact your AG members la, ask if they're fine with it if we push back your audition slot timing.

Some clarification

Hey hello people. I'm here to clarify some things.

If you look at the "rubrics" for the auditions, there are so-called "percentages" allocated to it. I know some of you have got misunderstandings about it. The percentages are not like the percentages that you score in a test, like 50/100 or wht not. Think of percentages as in like how much focus we are putting into that area, how much each of the MIs hope that you can display proficiency in each of the areas. No, we have no wish to make auditions seem like a exam, or test, nor do we want to. Just to clear things up here. and the percentages have been removed since they've caused so many misunderstandings.

Which brings me to my second point, I would like to apologize to everyone. I know all of a sudden there are alot of changes, alot of things to do, and alot of things to get used to. Songs didnt use to be finished within 4 combined and 3 sectionals. yes amazing isn't it. within 7 trainings, we've "finished" in a way a new piece. (ohya and good job ppl jiayou and continue prac-ing hard xD) it took us pretty close to 5 months to finish shan liang. (probably about 40 trainings assuming there are 2 trainings every week and 4 wks in a month). yes sure, we were all new then, and we need time to learn from the very basic, from holding a guitar to learning the notes, which probably accounts for the longer duration. However, looking at it again, its more than that, Morenita isn't simple. at all. In fact its 1 of the hardest pieces we've ever attempted. harder than shan liang, more so for shi jie. I dno, i even think that it might rival/be harder than some parts of our seniors' syf pieces. and yet, together we've managed to finish it. the road ahead might be tough, even stressful for everyone, with all the rehearsals, dry runs, full runs and whatever coming up. Its crazy yes, its crazy until i don't even bother to keep track of it. But as crazy as it may seem, i look forward to it. Not because with every passing day promos are drawing near and my teachers are breathing down my neck for january's tutorial, but because this is the club i love. and this is the club im spending time with. It might be stressful, with auditions and alot of terrorising stuff coming up, but rest assured that all of us, the exco, the MIs, are doing whatever we can, to the best of our ability, to make this as un-terrorising as possible. Especially the 3 MIs, eileen yingzhi and denyse. They really put in alotalotalotalotalotalot. how many people would willing stay up until 4.30am to continue having meeting about auditions, trainings and wht not. they did. and im really proud of them. But still, back to my point, im reallyreally sorry if somehow, we've stressed u all up too much. it was never part of our intention. our only wish is that, every1 wld be really proud to be proud members of hcgc. go around and, i dno. freak other ccas out. make them jealous. make them zi bei. and really enjoy every session we have, treasure every moment we have together. and not only start missing each other when we are forced to part next yr. but if somehow, stress and anxiety have unknowingly creeped into trainings, then i'll just sincerely apologize here. maybe its just the MIs hoping for too much from everyone. sorry.

And last but not least, some members have feedback on auditions and trainings. Thanks a million for telling us. Really, all the MIs are happy when we hear people telling us on how we can improve. while these things might not always be the most pleasant things to hear, they help us learn. precisely because of these things, we can improve and so, be 1 step closer to our dream. yupp so please continue telling us what you feel. admittedly, we're not good. there are times when we screw up, there are times when we could have done better. and we can only do so if you continue telling us where we can improve. so yupp. if theres anything you're unhappy about, do just tell your MIs or me. don't forget theres always ME if you just want a different person to talk to. lol.

ok thats about all le. o and a few more updates. club tee deadline has been successfully pushed to this wednesday (15/8/07). please try to make a design if you can k. this is after all, our club. and club badges are going at $3 each. again, do try to get 1. i feel a sense of pride wearing it to sch everytime. and even look forward going to sch slightly more nowadays, cos i can wear the hcgc badge <3 still hoping that one day we can all identify ourselves with that badge, and of cos, freak other ccas out x)

Changes have been made to audition timings for groups on wednesday. The audition timings have been delayed and extended slightly, in order to accomodate for more time for all audition groups to practise, and also to allow for sufficient time to conduct the auditions with the new audition criteria involved.

More updates

Hi everyone! these are just more updates regarding the activities which will be coming up for hcgc.

1) CIP. I'm sure your MI would have asked you about it by now. If they haven't don't worry they will soon. HCGC will be participating in the Butterfly Project concert that is to be held on the 25th of Aug (6.30 - 9pm). There will be a minimum of 10hours of CIP awarded for the activity. The venue will be at HC audi. There will be 2 rehearsals for this activity (requested by organizer). The first will be on the 22nd of Aug from 5.30 to 9pm, it will be a full run and the 2nd will be on the 24th of Aug, a dry run. If you're interested in this activity please let your MI know. Pieces we will be playing will be Shi Jie and Morenita.

2) Teachers day. HCGC is invited to perform for teacher's day, which will be held on the 31st of Aug. We are hoping that all members can take part in this event together. There will be a rehearsal on the 29th of Aug. Pieces we will be playing? Still Shi Jie and Morenita. yupp x) so do prac them.

3) Auditions. yesyes the thing that we all hate T_T sorry. but ya. we need it to make sure that everyone must be of a certain standard before going for these events. Auditions will be on the 15th of aug (starting for 2pm to arouns 3.30 so that it wont eat too much into that day's training). People who cant make it for 15th (wed) audition can choose to come for 13th(Monday) aud, which will be after training. For auditions you all will form group of 6, 2 from each section (nice opportunity to know other ppl from other sections too! x) ). Auditions will be by all the MIs together to ensure fairness and wht not. yupp.

4) There will be a few changes to training. The 6th of Aug will be changed to a sectional session cos the 8th(wed) is national day holiday. yupp.

5) Last Wed's training at the A block was quite noisy due to the lion dance troupe. (esp for section 2 which is on lvl 2) We're trying to book lvl 3 or 4 classrooms so that the we can have a more condusive environment. yupp.

6) This is the outline of our training schedule. Yupp its abit rush and all but please jiayou and prac more.

Hi ppl! this is just a super random post to update you guys on whats happening. yupp. sorry will be quite rushed got maths test tml jiu ming T_T okay nvm.

1) good news! guitar club has managed to KOPE good rooms. these are OUR ROOMS NOW (:

1. LT3
2. LT4
3. E301, E302, E303
4. A204, A205, A303, A305

lol. okay of cos we aren't that evil. we'll be releasing some of the rooms back to whichever cca which needs them. so basically, for combined training, we'll be using LT3 from now on. it is big enough so that it wont be like super noisy, and it has a stage which we can prac on. yupp.

As for sectionals (i.e. tml) we will be using the A block classrooms. actually its not very comfirmed yet for the a block classrooms. We've got booking comfirmed for after national day onwards so as for now we are not sure yet. but regardless, we're just gonna use it :D if its being taken by some other class we'll go back to our favourite E block classrooms den..

These are the respective venue for ur sectionals:

if they're coped, move to A205, its a buffer classroom, IF its also koped. cry -.-

2) CIP activity coming up. the details are not finalize yet but there is a high chance that we'll most likely have a cip activity. and cip activity for club is super fun, cos we can bond tgher, play the usual piece we play, and get quite alot of cip hours O.o LOL okay of cos being nice ppl. thats not what we aim for, but rather for the love and passion and need to reach out to those in need.

Due to all the MI-s being such nice and compassionate people, the MI-s have decided to cancel monday training (ahem). ya. specific reason shall not/cannot be mention. So just remember your MI-s are very nice people! x) So pleaseplease don't bring your guitar on monday (23/7/07) for training.

The next training will be on Wednesday (25/7/07) from 3-6pm at your respective sectionals venue (E301,302,303). Don't worry we've been trying to get air-con rooms for you guys but this will not be possible until national day is over. So meanwhile just try to bear with it k?

anyways, i just did smth nice...haha, the seniors should know about this song bah, esp jane and yongjing..yup, our rendition of Endless Love, or otherwise known as Shen Hua. It is the theme song of Jackie Chan's movie The Myth(Shen Hua)...hehe X)...but this is not our playing, i played it myself, not solo though, just recorded different parts and add them together...our performance was way better though...=/..i guess a song arranged for 3 guitars must be played by 3 people in order to bring out the effect...
